Matara Mayor's removal suspended until case concluded

Courts today ordered the suspension of a gazette notification removing the Matara Mayaor Upul Nishanthan from his post until a case challenging his removal is concluded.

The order was issued by the Civil Appellate Courts Judge Devika Abeyratna when the case was taken up today. 

Earlier the Mayor was removed from his post by Provincial Council Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal. 

The next date of hearing will be September 30.
