Opposition Leader of the Southern provincial Council Buddhika Pathirana said that the Army’s Gemunu Camp in Kotuwegoda, Matara has become a tavern for members of Tharunyata Hetak and the Nil Balakaya.

The Commanding Officer of the Camp, Captain Bharatha Kodituwakku has been tasked to provide security to persons involved in removing posters and cutouts put up by opposition members and putting up posters and cutouts on behalf of governing party candidates.

Captain Wijesinghe from the Gemunu Regiment in Kuruwita has also been assigned for the same task.

Pathirana said that three persons from Beliatte, who were involved in removing cutouts of Mangala Samaraweera and himself, were treated to a booze party on the orders of the two commanding officers. The liquor for the party was reportedly provided by one Kiri Mahaththaya, who is contesting the general election.

Pathirana also noted that the functions of the Matara Army Camp are currently being supervised by Presidential relative, Dishan Gunasekera.
