Maithripala to take a stand on behalf of the defeated candidates
SLFP General Secretary and Minister Maithripala Sirisena it is learnt has decided to stand by the defeated SLFP organizers at the general election against the President’s decision not to give any key positions in government corporations and boards to candidates who were defeated at the lections.
Sources from the SLFP party headquarters said that many SLFP electoral organizers who have lost positions and vehicles used by the following their defeat at the general election had met with Maithripala to explain their plight.
According to sources, most of these individuals are now facing a difficulty in even living their normal lives.
The General Secretary is of the opinion that the party should not ignore the SLFP organizers who have sacrificed their personal assets for the sake of the party’s victory at the general election and has condemned the non application of the Presidential decision to some other defeated members representing various constituent parties in the UPFA.
A defeated candidate of Wimal Weerawansa’s NFF, Jayantha Samaraweera has already been appointed as a head of a state owned institute.
