Warning signs from the JHU against the Executive Presidency
JHU Spokesperson Nishnatha Sri Warnasinghe says that the party is currently discussing the different opinions that have been put forward about the proposed extension of the term of office of the Executive President.
He made the comment when asked for the party’s stance on the proposed constitutional amendment to extend the term of office of the Executive President, adding that although the JHU did not have an issue with the Executive Presidency, the post needed to be converted into one that is responsible to parliament by curtailing its unlimited powers.
Warnasinghe said the JHU had proposed the inclusion of the number of Cabinet ministers in the new constitutional amendments.
The party has also proposed that key sectors like education, health, transport and roads be administered according to a policy that would be included in the constitutional amendments.
