Not Involved In Conspiracy Against State, Release Army Officers – CID Tells Court
Two majors and a lieutenant in Sri Lanka Army supporting Gen. Sarath Fonseka’s election campaign, arrested at the office at Royal Avenue in Colombo 7 and detained alleging they had participated in a conspiracy against the state were ordered to be released by Colombo Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratne yesterday (16th).
The Magistrate made the order considering a notification made by the CID carrying out investigations regarding suspects. The suspects released are Maj. H.A.D. Subash Nishanthe Kumara Mallikarachchi, Maj. Vijithe Anselem Kodippilli and Lieut. Rohan Thushara Prabhath Samarakone.
The CID addressing the Court stated the suspects were arrested at 1/3, Royal Avenue in Colombo 7 on suspicion that they were involved in a conspiracy to topple the government. However, investigations carried out with the Terrorist Investigations Division did not find any evidence to prove that suspects had been involved in any conspiracy and requested Court to release them.
