Tarindu Bopage – ‘Most Promising Young Sailor’
Tarindu Lakshan Bopage (Ruhunu Sailing Association). Nominated for the IODA (international Optimist Dinghy Association) Asian Sailing Championship 2009 in Malaysia from 12-20 December. He also received a Rs. 50,000/= cash donation from Janashakthi for his training and development.
Miss Aitana Elapata Gunaratne, Master. Joshua Jayaratne, Miss. Kimberly Karpinski were the other nominees for the IODA Asian Sailing Championships 2009 in Malaysia.
Sponsored by Janashakthi Insurance for the seventh consecutive year, this much anticipated Regatta was organised by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka with the Ceylon Motor Yacht Club as the Hosting Club, and attracted a large number of entries this year.
The Regatta was open to members of CMYC (Ceylon Motor Yacht Club), RCYC (Royal Colombo Yacht Club), BWSC (Bentota Wind Surf Club), RSA (Ruhuna Sailing Association) and the SLNSC (Sri Lanka Naval Sailing Club) and governed by the International Sailing Federation Racing Rules 2009- 2012, and also, The Sailing instructions.
